Jim Hartsell

AIA, LEED AP

Vice President, Director of Architecture

Jim has over 35 years of experience as a Registered Architect and has worked on a wide variety of athletic, K-12 and higher education projects at Davis Architects since joining the firm in 2004. As Vice President and Director of Architecture, Jim brings a wealth of expertise in the design of food and beverage spaces, athletic venues, and academic buildings, having led projects for private developers, universities, municipalities, and K-12 campuses. His leadership and technical knowledge have made him a trusted Principal-in-Charge for numerous significant projects, including the recently opened Crimson Reserve Men’s and Women’s Golf Facility at The University of Alabama. Jim has managed everything from small renovations to complex, large-scale projects in his years at Davis.

His relevant experience extends beyond architecture, as he is also a published writer. Jim has contributed to renowned publications such as The Golfer’s Journal, The Links Diary, and Golf Monthly. He is the author of two books: The Secret Home of Golf: The Authorized History of King-Collins Golf and the Creation of Sweetens Cove and When Revelation Comes: A Journey Across the Sacred Links of Scotland. In addition to his writing, Jim hosts a podcast on golf writing and has appeared on many popular golf podcasts such as No Laying, where he shares his expertise on golf and its history.

Outside of his professional accomplishments, Jim enjoys spending time in Hartselle, Alabama, where he resides. He is an avid cook, loves playing golf, and enjoys capturing moments through photography. His passion for golf course design, combined with his love for cooking and photography, continues to inspire and inform his work.
