City hires consultant for planned renovation of Ritz Theatre | The Anniston Star

“Alabama City’s historic Ritz Theatre needs some TLC, and the City of Gadsden is seeking a road map for that while it pursues funding to actually do the work.

The City Council on April 21 approved a $348,530 contract with Davis Architects of Birmingham for professional services and consultant fees linked with a planned renovation of the nearly century-old theater at 310 N. 27th St. in the Wall Street Historic District, home to Theatre of Gadsden, a community theater group.

Davis Architects has a track record of designing successful theater projects, both large and small venues, “Which I like and is one reason we’re bringing them to the table,” Williamson said.

“They’ve also gone through obtaining funding for grants for this type of project,” he added, “and they’re looking at avenues where they’ve gone before and are making sure no new ones have popped up.”
