Seibert Hall Renovation and Addition
Samford University
Situated at the original western edge of campus, Seibert Hall had become functionally irrelevant—a relic of Samford’s 1959 campus core. Demolition of the building was considered - but the design team saw the potential for something special. The result: a reimagined facility that not only restores its presence on campus but elevates it as a vibrant nexus of student life, wellness, and community.
The transformative project embraces Seibert’s past while providing for the future. A new southern expansion, spanning a football practice area, brings together the east and west sides of campus. A carved central stair links three levels of activity and social life, reintroducing daylight and visibility to a previously inward looking structure.
Old spaces were reborn with purpose: a former natatorium is now a bustling weight room and fitness center. Wood salvaged from the original gym floor became the tactile heart of Legacy Court. Transparency throughout—between floors, between spaces—fosters both visual energy and literal connectivity.
With LEED certification in progress, the project emphasizes sustainability. Reused materials, daylighting strategies, and high-efficiency systems reflect Samford’s commitment to responsible design.
No longer just a gymnasium, Seibert Hall is a literal and metaphorical bridge: between generations, between the formerly separated side of campus, between tradition and transformation. It’s a place where wellness is immersive, social, and visible—a space that is now the hub of student life on campus.
