Gator Gymnastics Training Facility

University of Florida

A new home to train, recover, and relax for the four-time national championship winning team.

Because the Stephen C. O’Connell Center provided limited training space for its acclaimed gymnastics team, the Davis team was brought in to find creative solutions to their space needs. Situated adjacent to the arena below a tensile structure roof, the existing space posed a number of challenges with regard to code, structural systems, and equipment needs. The team decided on an 18,000 sf expansion and renovation to create a state-of-the-art facility with proper equipment clearances, coaches’ offices with views to the training areas, a training room, and storage areas. Graphics enliven the space, and new mechanical systems provide better thermal comfort for athletes.

Completed in 2012, the Gators went on to win three successive NCAA National Championships in 2013, 2014, and 2015. Davis also expanded the gymnastics training facility in 2016 during the Stephen C. O'Connell Center renovation.
