Davis Dares the Rapids

Work hard. Play hard. In 2005, we challenged the mighty Chattooga River together to test our courage and draw a bit closer together as a team.

In September 2005, Davis Architects took an excursion to the Blue Ridge Mountains in north Georgia, to enjoy a fun filled rafting getaway. One third of us had never been rafting, and not one of us had been to the Chattooga. With the unknown ahead for some and expectations high for the rest, we all boarded a chartered bus and hit the road, loaded down with plenty of food, beverages, music, games and DVD's. Arriving later that evening at the Kingwood Resort in Clayton Georgia, we all settled our belongings in our rooms and joined each other for a fantastic dinner at the Back Porch restaurant. With our bellies full and enough to drink the crew headed down to the Principal's cabin to engage in a game of the brain called Cranium to finish out the evening. Bright eyed and bushy tailed everyone lathered up with sunscreen, loaded on the bus and headed out to the Chattooga Rafting Outpost. After watching a 1970's video of what to do in situations of emergency if something should happen on the trip down the river and outfitting with gear, we were hauled down to the input for a ride to remember. WOW, the Chattooga with it's pristine wilderness was amazingly beautiful! The run down the river started off easy with explanations of strokes and commands from our tour guides. After a warm up quickie, we were all in for it at the Seven Foot Falls rapid. WOO HOOOOOO, hoots, hollers and screams, maybe some tears in there too! The rafting trip was a blast with a truly gourmet lunch at Long Creek Falls, jumping off Ambush Rock ( a huge boulder) and a lazy pull behind an aluminum flat bottom fishing boat with a motor. The sun was now starting to fall behind the mountains and we had all survived and incredibly exciting and adventurous rafting trip. Back at the outpost we cleaned up and shared a slide show of the pictures from the day's trip. Zooming in on faces full expressions as we all experienced each rapid. We boarded the bus and headed home to Birmingham, the games, movies and adult beverages continued.
