Reflecting the best of its community while preserving the Cahaba River's natural environment.

For its new high school, the City of Trussville wanted to reflect the best of its community while preserving the natural environment along the Cahaba River. Davis combined natural stone found throughout the community with an inviting classical portico, to create a stunning new identity. State-of-the-art classrooms, science labs, art and technical studios were included, along with a 1200-seat performance venue and two gymnasiums. A soaring, light-filled cafeteria and outdoor dining patio overlook the river, and playing fields on the other side are connected by a pedestrian bridge. Committed to building value over the long-term, the school board chose to invest in energy-saving and low maintenance features, increasing the budget accordingly. The landmark building was delivered within the approved budget two months early. To build on its new identity, the city awarded Davis the commission for the city’s new civic center, constructed on the same campus.
